May 2008 Family Reinforcement Handout

May 25 2008 What did I learn today in Primary?
Scripture study, family prayer, and family home evening can strengthen my family!

Possible things to do with my family to reinforce what I’ve learned this week:

1. Start a sticker chart! Every night that your family reads their scriptures together, put a sticker on your chart. You can look at it often and remember you have an obedient family.
2. When we pray for other people we are serving them. Read James 5:16. What makes a prayer fervent? Before each family prayer this week, let each person suggest someone to pray for. Remind the person saying the prayer to pray for these people.
3. Come up with a list of things you’d like to do for family home evening and share with your parents.
4. For family scripture study, pick a scripture and see if your family can guess what scripture it is by only using yes or no questions.
5. Pick a scripture for the week and try to memorize it as a family. Say it each night, right before bed.
6. Our families can help us build shields of faith to protect us from “the fiery darts of the wicked” (Eph. 6:16). Elder L. Tom Perry of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles learned this as a child: “We were dressed in our home each morning, not only with hats and raincoats and boots to protect us from physical storm, but even more carefully our parents dressed us each day in the armor of God. As we would kneel in family prayer and listen to our father, … one more layer was added to our shield of faith” (Ensign, May 1974, 98). Make a family shield and draw pictures of what you learn from your family.
7. Try to learn a fun family home evening song, Family Night on page 195 of the children’s songbook.
